BMW 4 Series roof rack tent

The BMW 4 Series offers a lot of sportiness but also suitability for everyday use. Did you also know that the BMW 4 Series is also suitable for going on a camping trip? With the BMW 4 Series, you no longer need a heavy camping trailer or an expensive RV. Likewise, you no longer need to set up a complicated ground tent.

With the BMW 4 Series, you have the option of installing a rooftop tent on the roof and spending a very comfortable camping weekend with your whole family.

If you are traveling with the BMW, you can also discover completely new campgrounds or national parks that you would otherwise never reach with a large camping trailer or RV.

All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the vehicle roof of the BMW 4 Series are the appropriate roof rails and roof crossbars. The roof rails are screwed firmly to the roof. The BMW 4 Series has factory mounting points to which you can screw the roof rails. Then all you have to do is attach the crossbars to the roof rails to create a stable base for the rooftop tent.

The rooftop tent is screwed to four mounting spots on the crossbars. This creates a stable and secure connection to the vehicle body. All rooftop tents are fixed in the same way. Therefore you are free to choose which rooftop tent you want to buy. However, I recommend that you mount a maximum of a four-person rooftop tent on the roof of the BMW 4 Series. With a larger roof tent, there is a risk that the rooftop tent will be wider than the vehicle when folded.

Setting up a rooftop tent is also very easy. Whether you want to buy a hard-shell or soft-shell rooftop tent, modern rooftop tents have a mechanism that makes assembly very easy. Setting up a rooftop tent on the roof of the BMW 4 Series takes no more than five minutes.

The weight of the rooftop tent and the weight of the people in the roof tent is safely transferred to the entire vehicle body via the roof rails. In this way, the roof or the body is not damaged.

The maximum permitted roof load of the BMW 4 Series is stated as relatively low, but this always applies to the vehicle in motion. This plays a role, for example, if you want to mount a roof box or transport other heavy loads on the vehicle roof.

However, as soon as the vehicle is stationary, the permissible roof load increases many times over and you can set up a large rooftop tent and up to four adults can stay or sleep in the rooftop tent.

Please note, however, that the rooftop tent increases fuel consumption and thus reduces the maximum range. It is also possible that the driving behavior of the BMW 4 Series deteriorates because the vehicle’s center of gravity shifts further upwards. You should always drive very carefully with a mounted rooftop tent and also think about the increased fuel consumption.
