The BMW 8-Series is probably the most luxurious vehicle model from BMW, but that doesn’t prevent you from going on a camping trip with the BMW 8-Series.
You have the option of installing a rooftop tent on the vehicle roof of the BMW 8-Series. So you don’t need to buy an expensive camping trailer or RV. With a rooftop tent, you can also go on a camping trip much more spontaneously. All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the roof of the BMW 8-Series are roof rails and roof crossbars. You can screw the roof rails to the vehicle roof. The BMW offers factory mounting spots for installing the rails. Then you have to screw the roof crossbars to the rails to create a platform for mounting the rooftop tent.
Each rooftop tent is connected to the crossbars at four mounting spots. This is how the roof tent is securely and stably connected to the vehicle. The weight of the rooftop tent and the people in the roof tent is optimally transferred to the entire body of the vehicle. The roof and the body of the BMW 8-Series will not be damaged by a rooftop tent.
Although the permissible roof load specified for the BMW 8-Series is relatively low, this always refers to the vehicle in motion. As soon as the vehicle is stationary, the permissible roof load increases many times over.
You have the option of mounting a four-person rooftop tent (or smaller) on the BMW 8-Series. You just have to make sure that the rooftop tent is not wider than the vehicle when folded.

However, you must also note that installing a rooftop tent on the vehicle roof increases fuel consumption and reduces the maximum range. The roof tent negatively affects the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
Likewise, the additional weight on the roof can worsen the handling. Due to the additional weight, the vehicle’s center of gravity is shifted further upwards.
So you should only assemble the rooftop tent when you really need it. Otherwise, you should safely store the roof tent in the garage.
