I don’t need to tell you that the Mazda CX 30 is a great vehicle… but did you know that the Mazda CX 30 is a perfect companion for your next camping trip?

Yes, the Mazda CX 30 is perfect for having a great camping adventure with the whole family. You don’t need a big camping trailer or RV. The interior of the CX 30 offers a lot of space to take the whole family with you but offers even more space to take useful camping equipment with you.

The Mazda CX 30 also offers enough space on the vehicle roof to mount a large six-person rooftop tent. So you and your family can safely and comfortably spend the night on the roof of the vehicle.

The big advantage of putting a rooftop tent on the roof of the CX 30 is that you can sleep at a certain height above the ground. For example, you are safe from small and large animals. In a rooftop tent on the vehicle roof, you are also safe from the cold that comes out of the ground in the evening. You are also safe in a rooftop tent when it rains.

All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the vehicle roof of the Mazda CX 30 are the appropriate roof rails and roof crossbars. The roof rails are bolted to the body. The CX 30 already has threads on the vehicle roof for mounting the roof rails. Then you can connect the crossbars to the roof rails. This creates a stable base on which you can mount the rooftop tent. The roof tent is connected to the crossbars at four points. In this way, the rooftop tent is securely and stably connected to the vehicle.

(Some models of the Mazda CX 30 already have factory roof rails. Of course, you only need the crossbars for the assembly of a rooftop tent. If you already have factory roof rails, you only need the crossbars. Below you will find a recommendation for a very good roof crossbar model. There you can also see how the crossbars can be mounted on the roof rails.)

The additional weight on the roof of the CX 30, due to the roof tent and the people staying in the roof tent, is optimally distributed over the entire vehicle body via the roof rails.

The registered permissible roof load of the Mazda CX 30 is relatively low, but this only applies to the moving vehicle. This plays a role, for example, when transporting a roof box.

But as soon as the vehicle is stationary, the permissible roof load of the Mazda CX 30 increases many times over. Up to six people can stay on the roof in the rooftop tent on the vehicle. The vehicle is not damaged by the weight as the additional weight is dissipated via the roof rails.

You can mount almost any rooftop tent on the roof. Whether you want to buy a hard-shell or soft-shell rooftop tent. But you can also buy a smaller rooftop tent if you are mostly alone, or a larger roof tent if you want to sleep with several people in the rooftop tent.

However, when choosing a rooftop tent for the Mazda CX 30, you should make sure that the roof tent is not wider than the vehicle.

You can also buy a rooftop tent, which has an awning. So you have a safe extra room.

But you also have to consider that installing a rooftop tent on the roof of the CX 30 increases fuel consumption and thus reduces the maximum range. The driving behavior also deteriorates because the vehicle’s center of gravity shifts further upwards.

You should only mount the rooftop tent on the roof of the Mazda CX 30 if you really need it, and otherwise, dismantle it and store it in the garage.

This roof crossbar model is ideal for the Mazda CX 30 to mount a rooftop tent. The crossbars are stable enough to take the weight of a rooftop tent and the weight of the people and transfer it to the roof rails. In this way, the vehicle is not damaged, even if there are many people in the rooftop tent on the roof of the CX 30.

Is it difficult to install a roof rack tent?

No! On the contrary, with most models you only have to screw the underside of the tent floor to the roof rack of your vehicle. The best way to do this is with two people, as the roof rack tent is relatively heavy. After you have tightened all the screws properly, you can put full load on the tent.

Is it difficult to clean the tent?

No, you can easily clean the outside of the tent with water and a little detergent. The inside of the tent is also best cleaned with soap and water. Make sure that the inside of the tent is completely dry before you fold it up and store it. Otherwise it could happen that mold could form in the tent due to the high humidity.

How many people can sleep on the roof of the car in the tent?

It all depends on the size of the tent. You can also sleep with three people in a two-person tent. The weight does not play such a big role here, as the tent is not supported on the roof of the car, but on the supporting pillars (A-pillar & C-pillar) of the car or truck. This means that the weight is always evenly distributed over the entire vehicle.

I sold my RV and bought a jeep with a roof rack tent mounted on it. That was the best decision i ever made. I can pitch my tent anywhere in the desert with my jeep and spend the night there. I would never have come to these places with my RV.

My friend and I bought a roof tent for our car and now drive it almost every weekend into the wilderness and pitch our tent where it suits us. We're just excited about our new roof rack tent and never want to go camping without a roof tent again.
