The Audi A7 is a great vehicle for everyday use. The Audi A7 offers a lot of comforts and enough space inside to take your whole family with you. Did you know that you can also use the A7 to enjoy a great weekend camping? You have the option of installing a rooftop tent on the roof of the Audi A7.

A rooftop tent has many advantages over a camping trailer, a ground-based tent, or even a large RV. With a rooftop tent, you are very mobile and flexible. So you can easily reach campgrounds that you could never reach with a large camping trailer or an RV. You can also visit a new campground every day by simply setting up and taking down a rooftop tent.

The Audi A7 offers enough space on the vehicle roof to mount a three-person rooftop tent. For example, you can mount a hard-shell or soft-shell rooftop tent. A hard-shell rooftop tent is set up and taken down very quickly. A soft-shell rooftop tent, on the other hand, usually offers a little more space and features inside.

Camping with a rooftop tent also has many other advantages. Due to the elevated position of the roof tent, you are safe from small and large animals. In the rooftop tent, you are also safe from water or rain that can collect on the ground. Likewise, a rooftop tent is warmer than a ground tent because the cold from the ground cannot reach the roof tent.

All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the Audi A7 are the appropriate roof rails and roof crossbars. The roof rails are bolted to the vehicle roof. The A7 has factory mounting spots for roof rails on the vehicle roof. The roof crossbars are then connected to the roof rails, providing a stable platform to mount the rooftop tent.

The rooftop tent is connected to the crossbars at four mounting spots. In this way, the weight of the rooftop tent and the people in the tent is optimally distributed over the entire vehicle body via the roof rails. The vehicle is therefore not damaged by a roof tent.

The entered permitted roof load of the Audi A7 is stated as being somewhat lower, but this only applies to the vehicle in motion. This is only important if you are transporting a roof box or other loads on the vehicle roof, for example. As soon as the vehicle is stationary, the permissible roof load increases many times over and you can stay or sleep in the rooftop tent with several people without hesitation.

If you want to buy a new rooftop tent for the Audi A7, make sure that the rooftop tent is not wider than the vehicle when folded. From my experience, I recommend a rooftop tent for three to four people for the Audi A7.

You should also note that the rooftop tent increases fuel consumption and reduces the maximum range of the vehicle, as the aerodynamics of the Audi A7 are negatively affected. Driving behavior can also deteriorate as the vehicle’s center of gravity shifts further upwards.

Is it difficult to install a roof rack tent?

No! On the contrary, with most models you only have to screw the underside of the tent floor to the roof rack of your vehicle. The best way to do this is with two people, as the roof rack tent is relatively heavy. After you have tightened all the screws properly, you can put full load on the tent.

Is it difficult to clean the tent?

No, you can easily clean the outside of the tent with water and a little detergent. The inside of the tent is also best cleaned with soap and water. Make sure that the inside of the tent is completely dry before you fold it up and store it. Otherwise it could happen that mold could form in the tent due to the high humidity.

How many people can sleep on the roof of the car in the tent?

It all depends on the size of the tent. You can also sleep with three people in a two-person tent. The weight does not play such a big role here, as the tent is not supported on the roof of the car, but on the supporting pillars (A-pillar & C-pillar) of the car or truck. This means that the weight is always evenly distributed over the entire vehicle.

I sold my RV and bought a jeep with a roof rack tent mounted on it. That was the best decision i ever made. I can pitch my tent anywhere in the desert with my jeep and spend the night there. I would never have come to these places with my RV.

My friend and I bought a roof tent for our car and now drive it almost every weekend into the wilderness and pitch our tent where it suits us. We're just excited about our new roof rack tent and never want to go camping without a roof tent again.
