All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the BMW X2 are the appropriate roof rails and roof crossbars. The roof rails are bolted to the vehicle body at the factory mounting spots. The roof crossbars are then attached to the roof rails, providing a secure and stable base for mounting the rooftop tent on the roof of the X2.
All rooftop tents are attached to the vehicle right away. The roof tent is connected to the crossbars at four mounting spots. You have the option of installing a large four-person rooftop tent on the roof of the BMW X2.
The additional weight from the roof tent and the people staying in the roof tent is safely dissipated via the roof rails to the entire vehicle body. In this way, the vehicle is not damaged, even if several people are in the roof tent or are sleeping.
The registered permissible roof load of the BMW X2 is relatively low, but this only applies to the vehicle in motion. As soon as the vehicle is stationary, the possible roof load increases many times over. The specified permissible roof load therefore always only refers to things that you transport on the roof while you are driving, such as a roof box. So you can also mount a larger four-person rooftop tent on the vehicle roof.
However, always note that fuel consumption increases with a mounted rooftop tent since the additional mass on the vehicle roof disturbs the aerodynamics of the vehicle. It is also possible that the driving behavior of the BMW X2 deteriorates with a roof tent, as the vehicle’s center of gravity shifts further upwards. So always drive very carefully with a mounted rooftop tent and think about the increased fuel consumption and the reduced range. So you should only assemble the rooftop tent when you really need it.
