The AUDI Q3 is a great all-around SUV with which you not only cut a good figure in the city but also make good progress on unpaved paths. With the AUDI Q3, you no longer need a camping trailer or an expensive RV. You can take your whole family camping and then sleep comfortably on the vehicle roof in the rooftop tent.

The AUDI Q3 is particularly suitable for mounting a rooftop tent because it is very stable and also offers space for a large four-person rooftop tent.

With the AUDI Q3, you can also discover campgrounds that you could never reach with a camping trailer or an RV. Wherever the vehicle goes, you can also stay overnight. A rooftop tent is ideal for people who don’t want to stay in one place all the time but want to fold up the roof tent quickly and sleep in a different place the next night.

However, a rooftop tent also has a major advantage over a ground tent. Due to the elevated position on the vehicle roof, you are safe from small and large animals. But you are also safe from water or rain, which may collect on the ground. It is also warmer on the vehicle roof at night than sleeping directly on the floor.

All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the roof of the AUDI Q3 are roof rails and roof crossbars. Some models of the AUDI Q3 already have factory roof rails, so of course you don’t have to install any additional roof rails.

Now you have to connect the roof crossbars to the roof rails to create a stable base for assembling the rooftop tent. The rooftop tent is then connected to the crossbars at four mounting spots. In this way, the roof tent is securely and stably connected to the vehicle.

The weight of the rooftop tent and the people in the roof tent is optimally transferred to the vehicle body via the crossbars and the roof rails. This means that neither the roof nor the body of the Audi is damaged by the weight.

The registered permissible roof load of the AUDI Q3 is relatively low, but this only applies to the vehicle in motion. This is important if, for example, you are installing a roof box or want to transport other loads on the roof. But as soon as the vehicle is stationary, the possible roof load increases many times over. You can even mount a large four-person rooftop tent on the roof and stay in the roof tent with up to four adults.

You can either buy a hard-shell rooftop tent or a soft-shell rooftop tent. Both versions fit on the roof of the Q3. When buying a rooftop tent, just make sure that the roof tent is not wider than the vehicle when folded.

A hard-shell rooftop tent is easier and quicker to set up but offers less interior space. A soft-shell rooftop tent takes a little longer to set up but offers more space and usually more features inside the rooftop tent.

Of course, you can always add other features later. Just make sure that these features are always removable and do not damage the rooftop tent when folding it up.

But there are also rooftop tents that already have an awning (annex). So you have an extra space that can also protect you in the rain or strong wind.

You also have to keep in mind that fuel consumption increases and the maximum range of the vehicle decrease. Since the mounted rooftop tent negatively affects the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The roof tent can also have a negative effect on driving dynamics, as the vehicle’s center of gravity shifts further upwards. So always be very careful when driving with the rooftop tent mounted and also think about the higher fuel consumption.
