All you need to mount a rooftop tent on the roof of the Mercedes-Benz GLB are the appropriate roof crossbars. The crossbars are mounted on the GLB’s factory roof rails. The crossbars serve as a platform for the rooftop tent. (If your vehicle does not have factory roof rails, you will of course also need these. Some models are delivered without roof rails. However, it is very easy to retrofit roof rails. These are fixed to the roof with screws.)
Rooftop tents are connected to the vehicle at four mounting spots on the underside. In this way, the roof tent is securely and stably connected to the vehicle.
You have the option of installing a hard-shell or soft-shell rooftop tent for up to six people on the Mercedes-Benz GLB. You can also extend the rooftop tent with an awning to create additional safe/camping space.
The registered permissible roof load of the Mercedes-Benz GLB is given as somewhat low, but this always applies to the vehicle in motion. This applies to roof boxes and similar luggage. As soon as the vehicle is stationary, the permissible roof load increases many times over.
So you can be sure that the vehicle will not be damaged, even if there are many people in the rooftop tent on the roof of the GLB.
However, you must always remember that if you set up a rooftop tent, the fuel consumption will increase and the range will decrease. The driving behavior also deteriorates, since the vehicle’s center of gravity is certainly shifted further upwards.
